“God stepped in just in time to keep us from being homeless … We had to be out of our place on November 4, and Door of Hope made it possible for us to pay rent on a new place available on November 3. It was such a blessing.”
– NOY AND SON, Homelessness Prevention Program Graduate 2023
It is far easier to fall into homelessness than to escape it – in LA County, homelessness has grown 23% since 2019. There was a 25% increase in family homelessness in Pasadena since 2019.
The Homelessness Prevention Program is holistic, offering not only financial support through short term rental assistance, but case management, financial coaching, and career development.
And it works, with 96% of families still housed one year later!
In contrast, providing services to a family living on the streets can cost the community $128,000.
Scaling our prevention services is easy and primarily involves hiring a case manager and expanding our rental assistance budget. While we have significantly increased the number of families served through homelessness prevention, we must do even more. For every family we serve, 36 are on the waiting list.
Our plan is to increase the number of families served by 10% each year until 2027.
