Kim’s Smile

The smile pictured here was rarely seen until recently.  It was masked by pain, shame, and abuse. Two years ago, Kim became a victim of domestic violence (DV). For her and her children’s safety, Kim knew she had to leave, and she was able to quickly find refuge at a 45-day DV shelter. Near the end of their stay there, Kim and her children found Door of Hope. Since being here, Kim has reached many personal goals – learning English, gaining confidence, and her kids have excelled in school!

Last month thanks to a generous Door of Hope supporter, Kim was able to achieve a different life-long dream. Growing up in Central America, Kim could not afford toothpaste and used washing detergent to brush her teeth. This caused her teeth to rot, and Kim refused to smile.

Door of Hope connected Kim to one of our supporters, a dentist who has offered free dental care to some of our families. This dentist generously covered 100% of the $8,000 procedure to give Kim a new smile and newfound confidence!  Kim has prayed for new teeth all her life and thanks to community support she got them and can’t stop smiling!

As she pursues future employment opportunities and permanent housing, she will do so with confidence thanks to the generosity of supporters like you.
