One way we see God’s redeeming power at work is in the life of a former resident and new board member Wendi Gaines who came to Door of Hope in 2006 with her 3 children. Following the end of her marriage and a 6-month stay with a friend, Wendi was desperate to find some stability for her kids. At Door of Hope, she found that and more – counseling, finance classes, life skills, and housing. She quickly found work at a local hospital and started to save money, while securing child care and affordable, permanent housing where she still lives 11 years later with her kids who are now in high school.

Today, Wendi draws on her success to encourage others. Since 2008, Wendi has led a bible study for residents and joined Door of Hope’s Board this year! Wendi’s experience, combined with her love for God’s Word, is a powerful recipe for transformation and hope among residents, staff and board members alike. “I’ve never forgotten my time at Door of Hope,” Wendi says. “It absolutely changed my life!”
