Graduation ceremonies are great reminders of the life change that happens at Door of Hope every day. This is certainly true for the Lopez family who recently graduated on Wednesday, February 7, 2018. The Lopez family became residents at Door of Hope in May of 2017 after falling on hard times and being evicted from their one-bedroom home where they lived for 16 years. Being at Door of Hope provided an opportunity to take a step back, regroup, and rebuild.

Shortly after becoming residents, both parents were able to increase their income and build up some savings. Clark, the father, expanded his business as a franchise owner of a cleaning company, JaniKing. Jonacel, the mother, found work that allowed both parents to spend more time with their kids. The children excelled in school while attending Door of Hope’s after-school program which they are still a part of after graduating. Throughout their time here they maintained exceptional grades while receiving scholarships for their academics.

The Lopez family is a great example of how Door of Hope equips families with the tools to succeed, while the families do all the heavy lifting to secure a better future for themselves. As Clark reflects, “We are more responsible with our finances. We argue less and became better parents. Door of Hope has changed the way we structure our home and now we feel confident our family will succeed with faith and trust in God.”
